All Types of Chakra Reiki Healing: Benefits, Techniques & What to Expect

Your body is not just flesh and bone. Beneath the surface, an invisible river of life-force energy flows through seven major energy centres known as chakras. When these centres are open, aligned, and vibrating at their natural frequency, life feels effortless — your health thrives, emotions settle, and your sense of purpose becomes clear. When even one chakra falls out of balance, the ripple effect touches everything: your mood, your body, your relationships, your sleep.
Reiki — the ancient Japanese healing art of channelling universal life-force energy through intentional touch and focused intention — works directly with these seven chakras. As a Reiki Master with over two decades of practice, I have witnessed profound transformations when the right kind of healing energy reaches the right centre at the right moment.
This guide walks you through all seven chakras, the specific Reiki healing approach for each one, the benefits you can expect, and a simple understanding of how each session unfolds — so you arrive informed, open, and ready to receive.

Understanding the 7 Chakras and Why They Matter

The word chakra comes from Sanskrit, meaning wheel or disc. Each chakra is a spinning vortex of energy located along the central channel of the body — from the base of the spine to the crown of the head. Each one governs distinct physical organs, emotional states, and spiritual qualities.
In Reiki, the practitioner acts as a clear channel for universal energy. That energy is intelligent — it flows precisely where it is needed, releasing stagnation, dissolving blockages, and gently nudging each chakra back to its optimal state. No two sessions are identical, because no two energy fields are the same.

1. Root Chakra Reiki Healing (Muladhara)

Root Chakra Reiki HealingLocation: Base of the spine
Colour: Red
Element: Earth
Governs: Survival, safety, financial stability, physical vitality
The Root Chakra is your foundation. When it is blocked, you may experience chronic fear, financial anxiety, lower back pain, digestive issues, or a general sense of being ungrounded — as though life could shift beneath you at any moment.
Reiki approach: Hands are placed at the base of the spine and the soles of the feet. The Cho Ku Rei symbol is activated to ground and amplify earth energy. Clients often feel a deep warmth spreading through their legs, a heaviness releasing from the hips, and a remarkable sense of solidity by the end of the session. Benefits: Reduced anxiety, improved sleep, relief from lower back tension, stronger sense of safety, renewed physical energy.

2. Sacral Chakra Reiki Healing (Svadhisthana)

Sacral Chakra Reiki HealingLocation: Two inches below the navel
Colour: Orange
Element: Water
Governs: Emotions, creativity, sensuality, relationships, pleasure
A blocked Sacral Chakra shows up as emotional numbness, creative blocks, difficulty in relationships, guilt, or reproductive health challenges. It holds the seat of your feeling life — your capacity to flow, to feel, to create.
Reiki approach: Gentle hands are placed over the lower abdomen. The Sei He Ki emotional healing symbol is drawn to dissolve suppressed feelings stored in this centre. Water-element imagery and intention are woven into the session to restore natural flow.
Benefits: Emotional release, renewed creativity, healthier relationship patterns, improved hormonal balance, greater capacity for joy.

3. Solar Plexus Chakra Reiki Healing (Manipura)

Solar Plexus Chakra Reiki HealingLocation: Upper abdomen, stomach area
Colour: Yellow
Element: Fire
Governs: Personal power, confidence, willpower, self-worth, digestion
When Manipura is out of balance, you may struggle with low confidence, people-pleasing, digestive disorders, chronic fatigue, or a feeling that your life is controlled by others rather than by you. Reiki approach: Hands rest over the stomach and solar plexus region. Fire-element intention is used alongside Cho Ku Rei to reignite inner strength. This session often produces a distinct warmth — almost like a glowing ember rekindling in the belly.
Benefits: Boosted self-esteem, improved digestion, stronger boundaries, mental clarity, greater sense of personal agency.

4. Heart Chakra Reiki Healing (Anahata)

Heart Chakra Reiki HealingLocation: Centre of the chest
Colour: Green (and pink)
Element: Air
Governs: Love, compassion, grief, forgiveness, relationships
Heart Chakra Reiki Healing is among the most requested and most transformative sessions in my practice. This is the chakra that sits at the bridge between the earthly chakras below and the spiritual chakras above. When it closes — through heartbreak, grief, betrayal, or years of self-criticism — the entire energy system loses its cohesion.
Signs of a blocked Heart Chakra include difficulty giving or receiving love, lingering grief, loneliness even in company, shallow breathing, and tightness across the chest.
How it works: During a Heart Chakra Reiki Healing session, I place my hands gently over the centre of your chest and, simultaneously, between the shoulder blades at the back. The Sei He Ki symbol is drawn to address emotional wounds, and the Dai Ko Myo master symbol is invoked for deeper spiritual healing of the heart field. Clients typically experience an initial tightening — old emotion rising to be released — followed by a wave of warmth, tears, or a profound sense of being held and loved exactly as they are.
The session typically lasts 45 to 60 minutes. Aftercare involves drinking warm water, resting quietly, and journalling any feelings that arise over the following 48 hours.
Benefits:

  • Release of grief, anger, and old heartbreak
  • Improved ability to give and receive love freely
  • Reduction in chest tightness and shallow breathing
  • Greater compassion for self and others
  • Stronger, more nourishing relationships
  • A felt sense of inner wholeness and peace
Heart Chakra Reiki Healing is particularly powerful for those who have experienced loss, toxic relationships, codependency, or who simply feel emotionally shut down. It is also deeply supportive for caregivers and healers who give constantly but rarely receive.

5. Throat Chakra Reiki Healing (Vishuddha)

Throat Chakra Reiki HealingLocation: Throat
Colour: Blue
Element: Ether (Space)
Governs: Communication, truth, self-expression, listening, creativity through voice A blocked Throat Chakra shows up as inability to speak your truth, chronic throat issues, fear of being heard, talking over others, or swallowing words to keep the peace.
Reiki approach: Hands hover gently around the throat without pressure. Sound healing — through the Bija mantra HAM and crystal singing bowls tuned to the throat frequency — is often integrated. The session works to release years of unexpressed words and emotions lodged in this centre.
Benefits: Clearer communication, confidence in expressing needs, reduced throat inflammation, creative voice unlocked, improved listening.

6. Third Eye Chakra Reiki Healing (Ajna)

Third Eye Chakra Reiki HealingLocation: Between the eyebrows
Colour: Indigo
Element: Light
Governs: Intuition, perception, imagination, inner wisdom, psychic clarity Third Eye blockages manifest as overthinking, lack of direction, poor intuition, frequent headaches, brain fog, or difficulty making decisions.
Reiki approach: One hand is placed lightly at the forehead, the other at the base of the skull. Hon Sha Ze Sho Nen and Dai Ko Myo are both activated to clear mental clutter and open the inner eye. Many clients experience gentle pulsing, colour visions, or sudden clarity about situations they had been struggling to understand. Benefits: Enhanced intuition, sharper mental focus, relief from headaches, improved dream recall, deeper meditation, greater inner knowing.

7. Crown Chakra Reiki Healing (Sahasrara)

Crown Chakra Reiki HealingLocation: Top of the head
Colour: Violet and white
Element: Cosmic energy / Thought
Governs: Spiritual connection, divine wisdom, higher consciousness, sense of unity The Crown Chakra is your direct link to the universe, to source energy, to whatever you call the divine. When it is closed, life can feel meaningless, isolated, or spiritually dry. When it opens, everything shifts — there is an unshakeable knowing that you are part of something vast and loving.
Reiki approach: Hands hover above the crown without touching. The Dai Ko Myo master symbol is the primary tool here — it carries the highest vibrational frequency in the Reiki system and works to dissolve the illusion of separation. This session is often experienced as a profound stillness, a feeling of floating, or sudden tears of inexplicable joy.
Benefits: Deep spiritual peace, release of existential anxiety, clarity of life purpose, profound meditative states, unity consciousness.
